Mission
AMCD Women’s Concern Group takes pride in supporting mental health and the advocacy work that addresses the concerns plaguing women’s mental health. Recognizing the diversity within womanhood is vital, and is incongruent with the Women’s Concern Group, and the larger Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development’s values. We offer opportunities to connect personally and professionally and promote scholarship through writing and research in women-focused areas.
For the purpose of our concern group, we include both cis, and trans women, and those who identify as womxn. We have a description of each of the terms for your reference.

Cis-women: Cis refers to the match between gender identity and the sex assigned at birth. Cisgender women, thus, are women who were assigned as female at birth and identify with the female gender.

Trans-women: Trans women, on the other hand, identify with the female gender, but were assigned male at birth.

Womxn: An alternative term in English that includes trans-women and women of color. includes femme/feminine-identifying genderqueer and non-binary individuals.

We recognize that gender diversity awareness is an evolving process. We strive to include space for other sources of diversity within womanhood as our group expands.
